Not for Shabba Carmel Keegan!
Carmel was up and ready to run at the March Hare 5k race at Stanwick Lakes, near Wellingborough.
So how did she get on? Our Roving Reporter caught up with her to find out.
I ran this race with my Daughter Leah and my friend Maria, I had arranged to run it with my friend because she had never ran any kind of race before and wanted to get a 5k PB. I was not well on race day. I had the serious lurgy. I sent the whole of the run coughing a lung up!
The atmosphere was a bit tense as the event was very late in starting, despite there being a 5k, 10k and Half Marathon distance taking place they did not stagger the start and there was a lot of confusion about which arrows people were following as all 3 distances had different routes.
The highlight of the event was Maria coming in with a PB and me having the honour of helping her get round the course. It really is an amazing feeling. Leah waited for us at the end.....
Next week I have a 10k Trail Race which will be fun as the description states 'Natural Obstacles and we will encounter livestock'
In the eyes of this Roving Reporter, running a 5k race to help your friend PB, whilst you feel unwell and feeling honoured to do so is the Shabba Spirit right there!
Well done Carmel, Maria and Leah - the Shabbas are proud of you all!
